ST. MARY'S CHURCH IN CRIKVINA
The exhibition defines the Crikvina locality, St. Mary's church, mausoleum and the royal "court" in Biskupija near Knin. The exhibition shows the stone furniture with high quality ornamenting, and extremely valuable grave finds.
17 IN 8
The exhibition 17 in 8 discusses the results of archaeological researches carried out in 1992 in the eastern part of the Diocletian's Palace in Split. The research discovered various mobile excavation material (pottery, glasswork and metalwork, numismatic finds, decoration and constructive architectural pieces, parts of sculptured church furniture, fragments from frescos), which illustrate the life in this part of the old town from the times of Diocletian to the middle ages and the new era.

CURIOSITIES
6 January EPIPHANY ' THREE KINGS' DAY
On this day the Church celebrates the event described in the Gospel -the arrival of the three magi, three Wise Men wishing to worship the new-born King. They came from far away and looked for Christ. In the epiphany gospel message, the main reality is the new-born King, Jesus Christ, who on the outside does not bear any signs of royalty. He lives in a village hut among poor people. He is a King who does not hold festive receptions. He is hidden, put aside. Yet a star announced his birth, which brought the Wise Men from the east to brig him, gifts and worship him. They were there, not for their own sake, but to draw attention on the new-born King, whom they revealed.
The Magi from the east, who St. Mathew spoke of without even mentioning their names or number, later tradition turned into kings and named them Caspar, Melchior and Baltasar. A charming legend was created about them according to which St. Thomas, the apostle baptised them. It is probably because he among the apostles was the one to break through furthermost to the east - all the way to India. When the three kings die, their relics would be taken to Constantinople and from there to Milan, and therefrom transferred to Cologne. Over these relics kept in a gorgeous coffer. the most glamorous cathedral was built in Germany. It is still the most beautiful symbol of the city of Cologne, where there worshipping is quite developed. Those sacred Magi or kings represented the pagan world and yet came to worship Jesus thus revealing his being the Saviour of all men.
The Calendar of Events Editorial Staff would not include this event in the Things and Places of Interest part. We, however, wished to address you. The Calendar of Events has been running for six years now. Published by the Tourist Board of Split it has changed its form but preserved the purpose. And this purpose is to provide information through culture, business, entertainment and sport in the best possible way. The purpose of such information is clear - our citizens and guests know where to find about events going on in Split.
We dealt with about 300 different information that change monthly depending on the presentation. It has been a very demanding job, which asked for good co-operation and fast reaction, often improvising. A small team has been included in the result. Changes have occurred at the Tourist Board of Split. The organisation of further issues has changed. There will be a new publisher, new editor, new design, etc. The purpose will, however, remain the same - to gather the information in one place for better use of our citizens and guests.
I would like to express my gratitude to all the team members for all their effort - Dalmacijapapir printing (Ms Karmen Vuletić, Ms Jadranka Ardizzone who was tortured by my "wishes" so many times and simply throwing them the paper created the final thing, Ms Ana Bradašić - from information to suggestions, the translator, Ms Marija Barbić, the graphic designer, photographers, known an unknown.
With all the best wishes to the new editorial staff and for the benefit of tourism development in our city.
We thank you for your attention,
Editorial Staff
